Nebraska Rescue
Background Information
In late April, nearly 200 horses were rescued from an Alliance, Neb. ranch in one of the largest equine rescue operations in the history of the state.
According to the Humane Society of the United States, the horses at 3-Strikes Mustang Ranch were "living in crowded, filthy pens without food or water" and were "suffering from overgrown hooves and other untreated medical conditions."
Unfortunately, area law enforcement found more than 70 dead horses and burros on the property.
The ranch owner, Jason Charles Meduna, was arrested and faces 149 counts of class IV felony Cruel Neglect of Animal.
After the rescue, 84 of these horses were transported to the Black Beauty Ranch in Murchison, Tex. These horses are stallions and geldings and require special care and handling during rehabiliation.
Making matters even worse, many of the horses have been marked with a "U," meaning they have reached the criteria for Sale Authority. This happens because a) the horse has gone through 3 auctions without being adopted or b) the horse has reached 11 years of age.
Individual videos detailing the characteristics and personalities of each horse will be posted to the site soon, so make sure to check back. If you are interested in providing a home for one or more of these horses, adoption applications will be available shortly.
Although these horses are out of harm's way, they still need your help.
At EquineOnline's Nebraska Rescue Center, you can learn more about these rescued horses and how to take them home at our Adoption Center.
Check back daily for as more photos, Adoption Center bios, blogs and adoption papers are added.
